One of the things I’ve always struggled with in my mind is the bridge between the commercial viability of art and staying true to a work’s core ideas. Often, a work needs to be watered down or simplified for the sake of appealing to the masses. If an artist stays true to his or her vision of a work, it’s usually at the cost of commercial success. But what happens if an idea is easily adaptable to be used in a commercial way? Should the artist forego the commercial idea in order to preserve integrity, or should the artist pursue it at the risk of diluting the original artwork upon which it was built?

We recently had our very first official site visit for our new house. We were delighted to find out that construction was well ahead of schedule, and progressed much quicker than we had anticipated. As you can see from the pictures, the house is pretty well built already. All cabling, HVAC, rough-ins, framing, walls, roof, windows and doors are completed already. They even have most of the drywalling done. Very impressive! Looks like all is on schedule for a December 8th closing as expected.
It was interesting to see the house so bare without any of our design decisions in place yet. But you might be wondering what design decisions we made? Well here’s the list of upgrades and colour choices we made.

After much deliberation, soul searching, suggestions (thanks to all who participated!) and great recommendations, I have made my decision. For the record, I was leaning towards version 3 (the blue one) and version 4 (the lighter blue and purple one) of my previous designs. At the recommendation of some tattoo artists I spoke to about my design, I’ve combined my two choices to create the look I was hoping for.
